I'm sick and tired of being unable to gig, or even go to gigs, due to the lack of COVID cautious events with sensible mitigations (masks, LFTs, ventilation etc)

I'm not the only one, and I know such events are starting to happen in the UK and elsewhere.

Thinking v srsly about putting sth together locally, but first I need to find out more.

So if you know of any COVID cautious music events anywhere in the world, please let me know.

(Pls boost?)

As I didn’t move an inch on my plans of creating some remixes, I ended up cleaning the tracks and releasing my 2025 EP, Stem & Flow.

Unlike the previous DNB album, this one takes it a bit slower but doesn’t shy away from the rumbling bass.

I’ll look into publishing on the streaming services later, so far bandcamp it is:

DAY 8 - galactic

(Suggestion: the word "galactic", by a relative)

Here's a bit more of a calmer track here. I wanted to emphasize the "big-ness" of it.
Hope y'all enjoy!

DAY 7 - mangoslop phonkcore

can you tell that i was asked to do this instead of me actually wanting to
(i'm just messing around, keep suggestin things)

(suggestion: "make phonk" by my little brother)

on another note, can't believe 1 week passed already! wowee. here's to more music :]

a phonk-esque song with samples of the iconic "wet fart" and "those who know" sound effects. It ends with me saying "SHUT THE FU-" but gets cut off by a loud bass note.

DAY 5 - "ah"

yeah thats the song name. that fits
(I really liked making this one)

This is a chill electronica song with a simple but catchy melody. It starts with a simple piano intro and then introduces a drum beat and some vocal samples. The song has a relaxed vibe and would be perfect for studying or just chilling out.

(late is better than never)
(also this project crashed 3 times on me and i had to remake this 3 times. bruh)

(repost because i forgot to put it in the thread)

an electronic beat with prominent use of synths. scatting is also used in the latter section.

DAY 3 - lemmesee

this one was nice :] i dunno what to say here, it just made me feel comfy :)

The audio is a piece of instrumental music with a slow tempo and a melancholic mood. The primary instrument appears to be a synthesizer, which carries the main melody. The overall sound is reminiscent of ambient or chillwave music, creating a calming and introspective atmosphere.

The CTRL (Cyber Threat Resistance League) album cover art. It's a very busy and colourful artwork featuring seven anthropomorphic cartoon animal characters from my creative project MOULE WORLD:

1. Melody: A skunk wearing magenta headphones and hoodie to the front left of the artwork, smiling confidently while holding a phone horizontally at the front of the artwork displaying the album's title.

2: Mei: A panda with pink hoodie to the right of the artwork, holding a wrench and punching a winged Bug. Below her is a chat box revealing dismayed bots unable to troll her.

3. Cockburn (pronounced "co-burn"), a yellow bear wearing purple hoodie and earphones, in the centre-right of the artwork, surrounded by ads and pop-ups demanding cookie placement, algorithmic engagement, investing in a cryptocurrency called "Delcoin", etc. He holds his hand up to some that are blocked.

4. Robin, a fox with yellow t-shirt wearing his Visionaria AR glasses, next to Cockburn blocking ads with his "IRL adblock".

5. Oskar, a squirrel wearing a red and yellow t-shirt, with a metallic side of his face with bionic eye, releasing Lampy, an AI firefly, into the Labyrinth, a rogue blockchain network that CTRL have been tracing Delcoin transactions to find Delgado.

6. Delgado, a bull wearing blue plaid shirt trapped behind blue bars.

7. Rocky, a photographer and urbexing raccoon with green hoodie, live-streaming himself confronting The Singularity.

I finally got around around to re-writing my badly outdated intro after a full year :leafeon_giggle:

Hi Fediiiii :mew_wave: I'm Octavia, a trans-fem Japanese and USian bard, violinist, streamer, and vtuber who uses her classical training to play all of the wonderful soundtracks that exist in the world :eevee_joy:

Games, anime, movies, visual novels, and any other sort of soundtrack I can get my hands on are in my repertoire :shiba_love: I stream on Youtube and Twitch and spend the time introducing people to soundtracks and taking soundtrack requests :charmander_yay:

Over the last 1.5 years, I've also dealt with long covid, which makes my stamina 20% of what it used to be, alongside making everything cost more and recover slower, which has been a frustrating journey, and I've become nearly unable to do in-person performances because even the travel is exhausting :not_like_this: I'm also AuDHD, and always have the specter of repetitive stress injuries looking over my shoulders :blob_sweat:

On Fedi, I tend to talk about games, manga, trans-fem stuff, and streaming, as well as heavier topics like transphobia, transmisogyny, and racism :zerotwo_learn: (my boosts tend to be slightly wider in topics, including appropriately CW'd lewd material and artists (and if you want just my posts, you can set the option to not see my boosts~))

New instance, new #introduction

My name is Mike (a.k.a. "shellsharks”) - I am a security researcher, #IndieWeb advocate, all-things #Fediverse convert and all around #tech enthusiast.

I write about #infosec, #technology and #life over at https://shellsharks.com

Here's some other stuff I like... #apple #sports #travel #battlestations #food #starwars #lotr #pokemon #gaming #space #fitness #nba #basketball #hiking #camping #music #coding #programming #cybersecurity

So what's going on with this instance? Is this my "main" presence or am I still on shellsharks.social? Fair question. The answer is, yes! This is a #GoToSocial instance, on a new fun, shiny, vanity domain. If it works out, I might end up moving all my activity over here and shutting down the Mastodon instance I have at shellsharks.social. Until then, I'm operating out of both spaces. This also means that for now, I haven't migrated my followers (or followed accounts) over here, so don't be offended if I haven't followed you back yet! I don't want to knock this fairly low-spec'ed instance over so I'm taking it slow with how I am using it.

Why am I doing this? Well for one main reason really, I wanted an instance where I could post more than 500 characters at a time. GtS gives me that, and much more. Bonus points for A. being less resource intensive than Mastodon (so cheaper to run), B. more customizable and C. I could get an even more ridiculous vanity domain.

So don't be surprised to see a lot more from this account than my usual @shellsharks account. If you'd like, you can follow me here for now. No worries either way.

See y'all around Fedi!

I made this Solarpunk playlist for times like these. There are two playlists. This is the longer one for shuffling. (The other is short enough for 1-2 listening sessions and tells a mood story in order.)

Tracks span the moods from political to apocalyptic, from love of nature to learning to cope, from sentiments of rebellion to outright calls to action, from community building to emotional healing. It is cathartic, sad, hopeful, and inspiring.

:zerotwo_learn: Oh, and for anyone curious about the arrangement, I have all of my custom arrangements available to everyone over on my ko-fi account: ko-fi.com/octaviaconamore

Ancient Stones from The Elder Scrolls Skyrim (composed by Jeremy Soule) is a piece that anybody who has played Skyrim will recognise, and it's been one of my favourites ever since I first played it, but for the longest time, it didn't feel like I could play it :cinna_sweat: A few months ago, I ended up having enough energy to make a proper solo arrangement of this (as opposed to the piano and ensemble scores available out there), and luckily, that seemed to be the key that made this playable for me :furret_excited:

I adore it so much that people that are frequently at my youtube streams probably hear it nearly every stream, and it felt like it was at a point where I could give it its own video :giggle:

Looking to get into but don’t know where to start?

Not sure which song is right for you?

Here’s a handy guide to help you choose your special track!

Looking for a good pub rock song with rip-your-face-off guitars and sing-along chorus? Try the heavy-rock sounds of “Proud Woman”.

ffm.to/dgarproudwoman

Perhaps something more orchestral is to your liking? I offer you the instrumental “Icarus”.

ffm.to/dgaricarus

If you enjoy a little synth in your rock, there’s the Mastodon Monday favourite “It’s Always Monday On The Moon”.

ffm.to/dgaritsalwaysmondayonth

Maybe you’re in the mood for a good soppy love song? I’ve got you covered… in pure sop. Just me and a clean Fender Stratocaster with “Cilla”

soundcloud.com/dgarmusic/cilla

How about a dark emotional bass number with “Only the Music”?

ffm.to/dgaronlythemusic

Or a poppin’ pop song might be what you’re craving. “Space Pop” even!

ffm.to/dgarspacepop

No? Ummm… oh! I know! Driving rock song! “Little Black Hatchback” with the synth solo and vroom vroom car sounds…

ffm.to/dgarlittleblackhatchback

Still no? Okay then. Stoner rock!! You like that right? “Gettin’ Stoned”.

ffm.to/dgargettinstoned

Rebellious grunge? There’s “Flat World” which has nothing to do with Flat Earth, in case anyone was thinking that.

ffm.to/dgarflatworld

Well okay, it does go a bit progressive-rock with “Splinter In The Minds Eye”.

soundcloud.com/dgarmusic/splin

Greek Mythology? There’s a bit of that with “Daedalus”.

ffm.to/dgardaedalus

Okay, how about an angry angsty thrashy breakup song? “Anymore”

soundcloud.com/dgarmusic/anymo

Alright, I’m running out of songs here… surely I can find something for you… umm. The space-rock song that fails to answer that age old question of ‘what she said’ - “Airlock”

ffm.to/dgarairlock

My ‘Indie Musician Anthem’ with rock guitar, two-note guitar solo, and mosh-dance bass? “Digital Busker”

ffm.to/dgardigitalbusker

This is “Stupid”.

ffm.to/dgarstupid

There is one more. If you like punk rock songs about zombies, that is, you can listen to “All Zombies Go To Heaven” which won 3rd place in the Annual Song Contest 2024!

ffm.to/dgarzombies

I hope you found something you enjoy! If you did, let me know! Stay tuned, there’s more to come!

Also on the subject of this year's music, I have made an end-of-year playlist, of some songs what I liked from 2023. As it was such a good year for music I enjoy, it's an awfully long playlist, a trifle over three hours.

There've been years in the past when I've struggled to get much beyond one hour, so three hours is a lot for me.

Even then, there was a lot that I missed out - nothing on here from Erland Cooper, Lila Tirando a Violeta, Erin Hopes, Craven Faults, all of whom made records that I loved.

So, yes, in the unlikely event that anyone wants to know what I picked out from this year in a three hour playlist, here it is:

Spotify: open.spotify.com/playlist/2k2J

or Youtube for those who prefer: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYK

(I hope that works, I've not made a youtube playlist before - can someone let me know if it doesn't?)

(I'd also do an Invidious playlist for those who don't like youtube, but I'm not sure how to, or if it's even possible. Maybe next year.)

I’m constantly adding and curating this playlist. I call it “Tingles” because it is a fountain of . That magical tingle feeling when the hits you square between the eyes. It works best on random shuffle and close to your body. I’ve been working on this since the late 90’s. It’s grown by leaps and bounds. 14 hours long. My lifetime favorite music. I hope folks enjoy it as much as I do.

I'm hoping to find a Bluetooth transmitter for my car music setup that doesn't have an auto-off feature. It's tough to find such a device that will turn itself on and make itself discoverable when connected to external power.

It was a bit of a hack, but I got PiMP to work on this dreaded infotainment system using Bluetooth. I couldn't use the Raspberry Pi's onboard Bluetooth controller to stream A2DP audio, so a dongle was necessary. I still can't control volume from the knob, but I'm working on a workaround. I'll be adding PulseAudio volume controls on the numpad soon enough! 🎩

Infotainment systems found in new cars are functionally restrictive and suffer from poor usability. The worst is the discontinuation of auxiliary ports, which would allow you to use something independent of such a system. FM transmitters just don't cut it.

I've since resorted to using a USB speaker with my Raspberry Pi to resolve this problem. It is a ridiculous arrangement, but I have reclaimed control of music playback in my car. 🤯

Yaaaay! :dracthyr_yay: Another recording (using my poor condenser mic that's been lying idle for a few months now :leafeon_giggle: )

This morning, I posted this: cutie.city/@OctaviaConAmore/11

The result of the work you see there is this recording.

@viralvulpes performed this gorgeous rendition of Someone Like You a while back, and from the night I heard it, it made me want to record parts for it, but my recording equipment was scattered at the time. Fast forward to a few nights ago when I set everything back up, and then last night when I did trouble-shooting, arranging, recording, and mixing :panda_yay::shiba_excited:

(Original recording: cutie.city/@viralvulpes/110433)

Aside from adding a bit of violin to the piece, I also did some EQing and a couple of minor effects to both bring out what was already gorgeous about Fox's recording as well as help blend the two tracks together (having different recording environments and equipment is a royal pain for this :blobfox_laugh_sweat: )

After sending him the finished file, he also gave me permission to post it here for you to hear. I hope I've done the Fox's original justice :bear_love::espeon_love:

Thank you again, @viralvulpes for allowing me to post this~ :hug_love:

p.s. If you have experience with audio engineering and hear something I could do better, I'm always wanting for practical pointers :bugcat_dance:

New instance, so a new post. I' don't really know what to say so I'll extend my bio a bit.
I'm a disabled lesbian trans woman from the north-west of England. I'm totally blind and have cerebral palsy. I possibly neurodivergent in some form or other as well but haven't been diagnosed.
I've been happily married for nearly 7 years at the time of writing. My wife doesn't do much on social media so I usually don't mention her name in public posts.
of my interests include:
Music, both playing and listening. I play keyboards, drums and bass. I love synthesisers and learning how to program my own patches on the ones that are accessible to me. I have a fairly eclectic music taste and favourite genres include pop, soul, R&B, rock, electronic music and others. It's probably easier to say what I don't like.
reading. mainly fantacy and sci-fi but I'll give most things a go if the blurb grabs me.
Technology interests me, but mainly as an end user rather than messing about with servers and stuff like that, although I have done a bit of coding. One tech thing I am fascinated by though is speech synthesisers.
Accessibility is of course important to me, and I've been known to go on rants about that. I'm a full-time screen reader user. NVDA on windows and VoiceOver on iOS.
I've done a fair bit of Wikipedia editing in the past, but not much these days.
I think that'll do for now, but feel free to ask me things. I don't bight, much.
Here's some hashtags.

An updated after giving it some more thought ...

I'm Matt, an artist and musician based in Toronto/Tkaronto. I work in and around computation, thinking about its histories, politics, culture, and computation-as-material. My main efforts right now are around computational poetics, expanded sculpture, and net art. I believe computers could be something different in the world, and try to embody that in my work and life.

I make music mainly as New Tendencies, but sometimes under other names and used to play in a number of punk/post-punk bands in addition to my more experimental/electronic/computer music and sound art. I also have a very very small label/press called <blink>.

I live with my partner of over 20 years and a 10 year old Bengal cat named Iggy (because she's a real wild child).

My online life goes back to around 1992 when I started calling BBS's, and running one... then soon after getting an internet connection and basically living on IRC where I got into the demo/tracker scene and started making computer music.

Also love sci-fi, video games, Hackers (1995), bad reality tv, cocktails...

Here are some links.
